Many Thermoplastic Rubber Wheels
Thermoplastic rubber wheels are a family of synthetic materials that are often referred to as TPR wheels, elastomer wheels, and synthetic rubber. Thermoplastic wheels are sometimes referred to by a chemical name such as polypropylene. The family of synthetic chemical wheels is generally referred to as TPR wheels even though any given manufacturer may use a slightly different mix of chemicals to give their thermoplastic wheel slightly different properties.
Other chemical names that are commonly used in the caster wheel industry are polyurethane, polyolefin, and nylon. By industry practice, polyurethane wheels are treated as their own class. Polyolefin wheels and nylon wheels are sometimes referred to by their chemical name and sometimes referred to as plastic wheels. Plastic wheels are for light to medium duty.
Thermoplastic wheels, or TPR wheels, offer excellent floor protection, they are quiet, and non-marking. Most TPR wheels are resistant to cleaning chemicals, floor polishes, oil, grease, solvents, and water. They are used in many light to medium duty applications. Polyurethane caster wheels are used in a full range of casters from light duty to extra heavy duty.
